Jimmy Williams, a former 49ers cornerback and return specialist died on Friday, July 8, 2022, according to the team. Williams was 43 years old. His cause of death is unknown at this time.
Over his six-year NFL career, Williams appeared in 80 games, seven of which he started, totalling 151 tackles (124 solos) and three interceptions.
Williams spent two years with the Seattle Seahawks before retiring from the NFL, serving as team captain during the team’s Super Bowl XL campaign in 2005, which ended in a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Williams returned to his hometown of Baton Rouge, La., after his NFL career, and became involved in his high school alma mater’s football programme in 2011.
Since 2011, Williams has served as the defensive coordinator and Assistant Athletic Director at Episcopal School of Baton Rouge, where he was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in 2006.
Williams leaves behind his wife, Chandra, and their son, Ace.
