In February 2020, two mega-mansions owned by John Caudwell was transformed into one huge, expensive home that is now the most expensive house in the UK. Situated in Mayfair, it is already one of the priciest postcodes in the capital. The home was last valued at a whopping £250 million.
The owner John Caudwell, a businessman, purchased the home back in 2012 for £87 million and has spent the past few years renovating and doubling its value. The home spans 43,000 square feet, which is more than twice the size of the Royal Albert Home. It is categorized as an average size for 55 London flats.

Set in a Portland stone building, the property has eight floors, 15 bedrooms and a 120-capacity ballroom to its credit. Other features of this expensive property include a Thai-themed dining room, with a river flowing through its centre filled with handpicked African Cichlid fish, all set beneath a faux cherry tree with pink blossoms.
It was further revealed that 20,000 sheets of gold leaf were used throughout the opulent interiors. The renovation of the house cost £65 million, with £55 million over budget. The story of this house and its renovation was the subject of a documentary earlier last year, where Caudwell revealed how a vast basement now joins the two mansions together. Also featured in the house is a “car stacker” that can take eight cars from street level to storage at the press of a button, plus an indoor pool with a volcanic lava installation.
