Ray Zondo is a South African judge presently serving as the Deputy Chief Justice of the Republic of South Africa.

Ray Zondo whose real name is Raymond Mnyamezeli Mlungisi Zondo was born on May 4, 1960, in Ixopo, Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. Not much is known about his parents, however, his father worked as a labourer in Johannesburg while his mother was a nurse aid.

Ray Zondo is the 3rd of 9 siblings and has a brother known as advocate Mxolisi Zondo. Not much is known about his family life and childhood.

With regards to his education, Ray Zondo attended St Mary’s Seminary in Ixopo. He later proceeded to the University of Zululand as well as the University of Natal (currently known as the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal) where he completed his LLB.

Furthering his education in Law, Ray Zondo graduated with LLM (cum laude) in labour law, LLM with specialization in commercial law as well as an LLM (in patent law) from the University of South Africa.
