Every year sees the skills and level of maturity that these players bring to the game, regardless of their youth. There are, however, some players who have been drafted before reaching the age of 22, and we could not have been any more impressed.

The youngest player in college football so far is Nigerian-born former American football defensive tackle, Amobi Okoye. Born June 10, 1987, in Anambra State, Nigeria, Okoye played college football at Louisville and was drafted by the Houston Texans tenth overall in the 2007 first-round NFL Draft at 19, the youngest player in NFL history.

Okoye moved from Nigeria to Alabama. He was already 2 years ahead of his peers when he arrived, and he graduated high school at 16. He was accepted into Harvard but instead went to a football college, the University of Louisville.

As much as records will always get broken in this world, Okoye’s achievement will remain a useful milestone in his life and the history of the NFL for rookies in the years to come.
