Adam Robert Ottavino is an American professional baseball pitcher for the New York Mets of Major League Baseball.

He was born on November 22, 1985, in Manhattan, New York, United States to John Ottavino and Eve Ottavino.
Ottavino graduated from the Berkeley Carroll School in Park Slope, where he played baseball.
Ottavino enrolled at Northeastern University, where he played college baseball for the Northeastern Huskies baseball team. He holds both the Northeastern career and single-season records for strikeouts.
In 2005, he was named America East Conference’s Pitcher of the Year. Following the 2005 season, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod Baseball League.
The St. Louis Cardinals selected Ottavino in the first round with the 30th overall selection of the 2006 MLB draft.
Before joining the New York Mets, Ottavino played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Colorado Rockies, New York Yankees, and Boston Red Sox.

John Ottavino, 67, is a 14-year umpiring veteran who has called more than 3,000 games.
He worked as an actor in New York on the stage and screen as far back as 1983.
Ottavino starred in movies such as “Malcolm X” and “Presumed Innocent” and on TV in the various incarnations of “Law & Order,” the soap opera “As the World Turns” and most recently in an episode of “Succession” in 2018.
Adam’s mother Eve Ottavino is a basic school teacher at Henry Bristow School and has taught at PS 39 for 25 years.
