Alberta Obinim, a 43-year-old woman, has been identified as the victim of a fatal stabbing in Manchester.

The incident occurred around 11:20 p.m. on Sunday, August 18 2024 on Barnard Road in Gorton. Greater Manchester Police have taken a 22-year-old male into custody on suspicion of murder.
The attack also left two others injured: a 17-year-old girl and a 64-year-old man, both of whom sustained life-threatening stab wounds.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect was known to Obinim and the other victims. Police are currently interviewing witnesses to piece together the details of the event.

Authorities have classified the incident as isolated, although initial evidence points to the suspect’s familiarity with the victims.
Community leader Ibrahim Abu described Obinim as a “lovely woman” who was known for bringing joy to others. “Yesterday she was at church, dancing and praising. We woke up to the tragic news of her death,” Abu said, expressing the community’s grief.
The community is now focusing on supporting the two other injured victims and seeking solace in the wake of the tragedy.
