Alec Baldwin is calling upon Gov. Tom Wolf to seek justice for the abuse of the obese black bear, Dillan.
Dillan was released from Union County Sportsmen’s Club in Pennsylvania to The Wild Animal Sanctuary in Colorado in January, and now Baldwin, on behalf of PETA, is asking Wolf to pursue neglect and cruelty to animals charges to the group.
In a letter sent to Wolf Thursday morning and obtained exclusively by Page Six, the 62-year-old “30 Rock” star thanked Wolf for freeing the Asiatic black bear but urged him to set an example for other animal abusers.
“…his abusers still haven’t been charged with cruelty to animals and neglect over Dillan’s mistreatment. An example must be set to help other animals stuck in similarly shoddy situations,” Baldwin’s letter reads.
Baldwin said Dillan underwent dental surgery within three weeks of arriving at the sanctuary after the UCSC ignored the issues, which the USDA cited in its report, three years ago. Dillan had 12 teeth removed and received a root canal, according to Dillan’s dental report.
“An infected abscess in his mouth was so advanced that pus was draining through a hole that had bored through his gums,” the gruesome letter continues.
Baldwin also discusses Dillan’s “morbidly obese” weight at 857 pounds, “which is more than two and a half times the normal weight for a male Asiatic black bear.”
“It’s a miracle that he survived. What the club failed to do in three years, the sanctuary did in less than three weeks,” Baldwin writes. “There is no excuse for the club’s cruel mistreatment of Dillan, and it must be held accountable.
“I respectfully ask that you use your power to ensure that Dillan’s longtime abusers are brought to justice,” he ends his letter.
A rep for Wolf didn’t immediately return Page Six’s request for comment.
