A Lagos Magistrate Court has reportedly denied Baba Ijesha‘s bail request in the on-going alleged sexual assult case.
Weeks after he was arrested for alleged sexual molestation, the actor was granted bail but he however was not released as he could not provide the sureties.
His counsel is said to have prayed the court during trial on Wednesday, May 16th, to release his client, citing “deteriorating health”. He is also said to have stated that, the controversy surrounding his case has made it difficult to get him released despite his bail as “intending sureties were scared of likely consequences.”
However, the judge, P.E Nwaka, in his ruling, is reported to have stated that, the court cannot grant the actor bail as the case is beyond its jurisdiction. The judge is also said to have added that, the case has already been filed before the high court.
The superintendent of police in charge of the case, Yetunde Cardoso, is said to have spoken on the matter stating that, the case is now beyond the police. She is said to have said, Baba Ijesha was indeed granted bail during the JUSUN strike but he could not meet the conditions.
She said, he has now been properly charged and the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) of Lagos State Ministry of Justice has now taken over the matter from the police.
“It has nothing to do with the police anymore, it is left for the DPP to handle“, she is quoted to have stated.
