The tennis rankings are among the most fluid in sports, with so many matches offering the chance for regular changes. We’ve looked closely at what you can expect from the rankings for the rest of 2024.

WTA Rankings

At the time of writing, the WTA rankings are as follows:

  1. Iga Swiatek

  2. Aryna Sabalenka

  3. Coco Gauff

  4. Elena Rybakina

  5. Jasmine Paolini

  6. Jessica Pegula

  7. Qinwen Zheng

  8. Barbora Krejcikova

  9. Maria Sakkari

  10. Jelena Ostapenko

Since events occur throughout the year, there’s plenty of opportunity for changes to the rankings. Most tennis odds favor Swiatek retaining her position at the top of the rankings going into 2025.

Iga Swiatek

Swiatek has a long way to go until she catches up to Margaret Court, holding five major wins to Court’s 24. However, at 23, Swiatek has plenty of time to get there. Her position as the top-ranked player will likely be safe, even with strong players arriving on the scene. Swiatek has the potential to rival the Williams sisters as a dominant force.

Aryna Sabalenka

Sitting in second place is Sabalenka. Despite not being as successful as Iga Swiatek, she’s still a high-quality player. This is shown by her winning the Australian Open in 2023 and 2024 and making at least the semi-final of the other three majors in 2023. Whether she can become more consistent and turn it into tournament wins is still doubtful, but she should do enough to retain her number two position.

ATP Rankings

At the time of writing, the ATP rankings are as follows:

  1. Jannik Sinner

  2. Novak Djokovic

  3. Carlos Alcaraz

  4. Alexander Zverev

  5. Daniil Medvedev

  6. Andrey Rublev

  7. Hubert Hurkacz

  8. Casper Ruud

  9. Grigor Dimitrov

  10. Alex Di Minaur

Sinner is currently at the top of the rankings after making his way there in June 2024. It’s his first appearance there, and he doesn’t look like relinquishing the position. However, Djokovic and Alcaraz are two incredible competitors who could challenge him to get to the top spot.

Jannik Sinner

Sinner won the Australian Open in January 2024 to take his first major. Since then, he hasn’t been as impressive, especially after having issues with an unfair anti-doping sanction. He’s expected to have a solid year-end and should retain his position.

Novak Djokovic

Djokovic has an excellent argument for being the best player of all time. However, he’s no longer in his prime, and it’s no surprise to see him dropping down in the rankings. There’s a good chance that Carlos Alcaraz will overtake him by the end of the year, mainly as he’s still young and improving. However, Djokovic is still comfortably a top-ten player and can beat anyone on his day, so he could sneak back into the top spot.
