The current year of Ethiopia is 2014 instead of 2021 as compared to other countries. In a post he made, Pere’s BBNaija brother stated that he is in Ethiopia currently and was told they are in 2014. Hence, he would want to find out how true that is since it’s his time hearing that.
Per our research, Ethiopia is indeed in 2014, and it’s different from the years of the other countries around the globe. This is because the Ethiopian calendar is seven years and eight months behind the Western calendar which is used by other countries.
According to history, the Ethiopians calculate the birth year of Jesus Christ differently. Their reason is attributed to the fact that when the Catholic Church amended its calculation in 500 AD, the Ethiopian Orthodox Church did not. Due to this, their new year falls on 11th September in the Western calendar or the 12th September in leap year at the start of spring.
However, in Ethiopia, there are 13 months each year. 12 months each have 30 days and the 13th month which is the last of the year, has five or six days, depending on whether it’s a leap year.
