Hulu‘s upcoming drama series is already packed with big names, but it just added another star to its impressive cast. Boardwalk Empire‘s Bobby Cannavale officially signed on to Nine Perfect Strangers today, joining series leads Melissa McCarthy and Nicole Kidman, Deadline reports.
Cannavale will play Tony, the ninth “perfect stranger” in the series, which is based on Big Little Lies author Lianne Moriarty’s 2018 novel of the same name. Nine Perfect Strangers takes place at a boutique health and wellness facility where a stressed out group of nine arrives from the city, ready to escape the worries of their fast-paced routines and transform their way of living with a 10-day retreat run by Masha (Kidman), the resort director.
Nine Perfect Strangers has been steadily assembling its cast over the past few months. Aside from Kidman, McCarthy and Cannavale, the series will also star Manny Jacinto, Tiffany Boone, Luke Evans, Melvin Gregg, Grace Van Patten, Asher Keddie and Samara Weaving. Just earlier this week, the series also added Michael Shannon and Regina Hall.
Kidman’s company, Blossom Films, will produce the limited series with Made Up Stories and Endeavor Content. And she’s bringing along a Big Little Lies team member for Nine Perfect Strangers — showrunner David E. Kelley will also act as showrunner on Kidman’s new Hulu series, along with John Henry Butterworth. Long Shot director Jonathan Levine will direct all eight episodes of the series.
Cannavale recently starred in Hulu’s Mrs. America as talkshow host Tom Snyder. He has been a series regular on shows like Homecoming, Bojack Horseman and Mr. Robot, and appeared in the films Blue Jasmine, Ant-Man and The Station Agent.
