The judicial review application, submitted on July 25, 2024, seeks a Mandamus order to compel the Judicial Committee of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs to form a panel to address a long-standing chieftaincy petition.
The petition, initially filed on July 24, 2019, challenges the nomination of Mr. Abrefa Damoah as Wenchihene, arguing that the appointment violates the Chieftaincy Act, 2009 (Act 759).
Although the Bono Regional House of Chiefs had initially issued an injunction preventing Damoah from assuming the role, this was overturned by the National House of Chiefs.

The National House directed the Bono Regional House to expedite the hearing of the case.
Despite this directive, the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, led by Dormahene Nana Agyeman Badu II, has not yet constituted a panel for the case.
Consequently, the Sofoase Yefere Royal Family is pursuing legal action to ensure the matter is addressed.
The High Court in Sunyani has adjourned the case to October 4, 2024. Dr. Obeng Gyan Busia, the Abusuapanin of the Sofoase Yefere Royal Family, filed the application through his lawyer, Kwabena Asare Atuah of Asamoah-Cheremeh Chambers.
