Charles Krauthammer was born to Shulim Krauthammer, who became French through naturalization, and Thea Horowitz who is of Belgium descent. Charles Krauthammer attended and graduated from Herzliah High School. Shortly after his graduation from high school, Charles Krauthammer enrolled with McGill University in Montreal where he graduated with first-class honors in economics and political science in 1970.

Charles Krauthammer started his career as a writer and an editor at the New Republic in 1979. From the New Republic, Charles Krauthammer moved to Time magazine in 1983 where he worked as a writer. He wrote so many essays for Time magazine including one on Reagan Doctrine which made him very popular across the globe.

Krauthammer got praise for his composition on international strategy, among different issues. He was a main traditionalist voice and defender of United States military and political commitment on the worldwide stage, instituting the term Reagan Doctrine and supporting both the Gulf War and the Iraq War.
