Tragedy struck the CrossFit Games as competitor Lazar Dukic died while participating in a swimming event at Marine Creek Lake in Fort Worth, Texas, on Thursday, August 8 2024 morning.

Dukic, a top-ranked CrossFit athlete from Serbia, disappeared beneath the water during the event, leading to a frantic search.
Emergency services were alerted around 8 a.m. local time after reports surfaced that a participant had gone under the water and had not been seen for some time.
A dive team and drones were deployed, and the athlete’s body was discovered about an hour after the search began.

In response to the tragedy, the remaining events scheduled for the day were canceled. CrossFit’s Chief Executive Don Faul expressed deep sadness over the incident, stating that the organization is working closely with authorities on the ongoing investigation.
He emphasized that CrossFit is committed to supporting Dukic’s family and the wider community during this difficult time.
Mr. Faul also confirmed that safety personnel were present on site during the swim. The medical examiner’s office has not yet released an official cause of death.
Lazar Dukic was a well-known figure in the CrossFit community, ranked third in Serbia and 88th worldwide. CrossFit, known for its high-intensity fitness competitions, involves athletes competing in various challenging movements and events.
