On Saturday, June 11 2022, officials reported a 30-acre wildfire burning in the Angeles National Forest. The Sheep Fire, a brush fire, was reported near Wrightwood.

The fire was reported around 6:30 p.m. and covered about a quarter of an acre, according to fire officials.

The fire had grown to 30 acres as of 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2022, and as of Sunday, June 12, the fire has burnt at least 35 acres, and officials say it has the potential to spread.

According to the San Bernardino County Fire Department, no evacuations have been required, and Highway 2 is closed from Highway 138 to the Sheep Creek area.

The brush fire was burning near homes on Desert Front Road, according to an Angeles National Forest fire department representative, but it was unclear if those properties were in immediate danger as water-dropping helicopters continued their aerial attack on the flames.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
