French rapper MHD jailed for 12 years for murder

French rapper MHD was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the 2018 murder of a young man in Paris on September 23 2023.

The young man was rammed with a car before being set upon by a mob and stabbed.

Five of his co-defendants were also sentenced to prison for the homicide, receiving sentences ranging from 10 to 18 years for what authorities described as a brawl between rival gangs.

MHD stated again that he was innocent during his final statement to the court before it retired to consider its judgement after three weeks of deliberations. “From the beginning, I have maintained my innocence in this case, and I will continue to maintain my innocence,” he told the courtroom full of people.

On the evening of July 5, 2018, Loic K, 23, was rammed by a black Mercedes before being attacked and stabbed by a dozen individuals in Paris’s 10th arrondissement.

MHD, real name Mohamed Sylla, denied being at the scene, however a neighbourhood resident recorded the incident from his window, and the Mercedes was identified as MHD’s.

A day after the murder, the automobile was discovered abandoned and burned out in a parking lot.
