The United States retired Lt. Gen. Gary Volesky posted a tweet that appeared to mock Jill Biden’s recent comment on the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
The tweet by retired Lt. Gen. Gary Volesky was in response to a statement posted to the first lady’s Twitter account on June 24 in response to the court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
“Glad to see you finally understand what a woman is,” Volesky responded. The tweet was later removed.
For nearly 50 years, women have had the right to make their own decisions about their bodies.
Today, that right was stolen from us.
And while we may be devastated by this injustice, we will not be silent. We will not sit back as the progress we have already won slips away.

His remark echoed an exchange between Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson and Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., during Jackson’s confirmation hearing in March 2022. In terms of transgender rights, Blackburn pressed Jackson to define the term “woman.”
Volesky worked for the Army on a $92-an-hour contract as a senior mentor, advising top military officers and other personnel on war game strategy and other military activities.
Volesky is a decorated, retired three-star general who received one of the military’s highest honours, the Silver Star, for his valour in Iraq.
The United States Army has suspended retired Lt. Gen. Gary Volesky from his consulting position and is investigating him.
