Georg von Trapp Children: Did Maria von Trapp and the captain have any children of their own?

Maria Augusta von Trapp DHS was the Trapp Family Singers’ stepmother. She wrote The Story of the Trapp Family Singers in 1949, which was adapted into the 1956 West German film The Trapp Family, which was adapted into the 1959 Broadway musical The Sound of Music and its 1965 film adaptation.

In 1926, while still teaching at the abbey, Maria was asked to teach one of the seven children of widowed naval officer Georg von Trapp. Maria eventually began to care for the other children as well.

Captain von Trapp, who was 25 years her senior, observed how much she cared about his children and asked her to marry him. She was terrified and returned to Nonnberg Abbey to seek advice from the mother abbess, who told her that she should marry him because it was God’s will. She returned to her family after that and accepted the proposal
