Harry Gration was an English journalist and broadcaster best recognized as one of the main anchors for the BBC Yorkshire regional magazine programme Look North.
Harry Gration MBE was born on October 22, 1950, in Bradford, West Riding of Yorkshire, United Kingdom. Not much is known regarding his mother, however, his father was a manager at a Boots store in the city.
Harry Gration was schooled at St Peter’s School in York. He later spent five years as a history teacher and served as the head of history at The Rodillian Academy located in Lofthouse, Leeds. He also worked as a sports commentator on rugby league games. This landed him three-month contract with the BBC.
Harry Gration went into broadcasting full-time after joining BBC Radio Leeds in 1978. He became the presenter of Look North in 1982. He has made an appearance on Top Gear in 2010, as well as, in the annual Christmas pantomime at the York Theatre Royal and in the 2016 production of Cinderella. He has been a broadcaster with the BBC for 40 years.
For services to broadcasting, Harry Gration was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2013 Birthday Honours. He publicly retired from the BBC on 13 October 2020. He was also Deputy Lieutenant of North Yorkshire.
