Dennis Waterman is not alive. The actor died on May 8, 2022, at his home in Spain, with his wife by his side. He was 74 years old. His cause of death remains undisclosed.

“We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved Dennis passed away very peacefully at his home in Spain,” his family said in a statement. “The family respectfully requests that our privacy be respected during this difficult time.”

Those who had worked with Dennis paid tribute to him on social media, with Matt Lucas writing: “I grew up watching Dennis Waterman’s iconic performances in The Sweeney and Minder.” He will be missed

Dennis’ 60-year acting career began as a child in the 1960s, when he appeared in a few minor stage roles for the Royal Shakespeare Company and in the BBC TV series William, which was based on Richmal Crompton’s Just William Books.

He landed his first major role in the 1968 British kitchen-sink drama Up the Junction, where he played Peter, Polly’s boyfriend. In the 1970s, he played a young Gestapo officer in the BBC TV series Colditz, which lasted two seasons until 1974.
