James Edmund Caan was born to Sophie and Arthur Caan on March 26, 1940, in the Bronx, New York City. He had his education in New York City and later attended Michigan State University. James however, transferred to Hofstra University in New York and while at Hofstra, he fell in love with acting. As a result, he dropped out.

Caan later graduated from New York City’s Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre. His acting career began in 1961 in plays like La Ronde. Caan has had a successful career and was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contributions to the American film industry.
