Franklin, known for his uplifting music and strong faith, shared that the decision was not made lightly. He recounted the challenging period when his sister was released from prison and was still battling drug addiction. As the only family member stepping up to help her, Franklin found himself overwhelmed by the responsibility.
“For the first time ever, I’m going to tell this story. This is why I stopped talking to my biological mother. I was 32 years old, and my sister got out of prison, and I was the only one trying to help her with accommodation and other stuff,” Franklin revealed.
The situation reached a breaking point during an intervention meant to help his sister. Franklin’s mother, who should have been a supportive figure, brought her new husband to the intervention, complicating an already difficult situation.
“It was more than a 32-year-old can handle,” Franklin recalled, emphasizing that the emotional burden was too much for him.
The gospel singer, who has always been open about his struggles and victories, has turned this painful experience into a learning moment.
He compiled footage from these events into a short documentary, which will be available for streaming on his YouTube channel starting September 15. The documentary comes just weeks ahead of the release of his new album, scheduled for October 6.
