Chelsea’s new manager, Enzo Maresca, faces a tough start to his role with an opening match against Manchester City on Sunday, August 18, at Stamford Bridge.

This game will see Maresca reunite with his former boss, Pep Guardiola, under whom he previously served as an assistant coach at City.

This will be the third consecutive season that Chelsea begins with a new manager, following Mauricio Pochettino’s departure after finishing sixth last season.

Maresca joins Chelsea after successfully leading Leicester City to win the Championship title, ensuring their quick return to the Premier League.

Chelsea’s opening fixtures are challenging, starting with the difficult match against City.

However, Chelsea has a strong history in season openers, winning 20 out of 32 matches since the Premier League began in 1992.

They have only lost five times in these openers, the most recent being in 2019 against Manchester United.

After the match with City, Chelsea’s schedule includes games against Wolverhampton, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, and West Ham United. These matches will provide an early test for Maresca and his new team.

Enzo Maresca, born on February 10, 1980, in Italy, had a notable playing career with teams like Juventus and Sevilla.

He transitioned into coaching and gained experience at various clubs, including Manchester City as an assistant coach.

His recent success with Leicester City has now led him to the managerial position at Chelsea.
