French actress, Marie Trintignant, died of a brain hemorrhage after a violent attack from her lover Bertrand Cantat. She was aged 41.
Marie was murdered by singer Bertrand, in a hotel room in Vilnius, Lithuania. She and Cantat had been having an affair.
An autopsy showed that Cantat had hit Marie in the head and face at least 19 times.
Cantat on the contrary, said he nly “slapped” the actress four times and before putting her to bed and was unaware her head had been damaged.
Cantat argued in court that he should be convicted of manslaughter, but was eventually convicted of “murder with indirect intent” and bagged an 8-year jail term. However, he ended up serving half of his term, following a release on parole.
Marie appeared in over 30 movies.
Her acting career spanned over 3 decades.
Marie had performed in La terrazza alongside her father when she was just 17 years old.
Marie has two films which were released posthumously: Janis and John, and Colette, une femme libre.
She was married to Samuel Benchetrit before her death.
