Grammy-winning gospel artist Kirk Franklin has recently voiced his criticism of how Western Christianity has distorted important concepts like marriage, giving, and sexuality.

In an appearance on the ‘Funky Friday’ podcast, Franklin expressed his concern that these ideas have been manipulated, leading many to follow human-made doctrines rather than true spiritual guidance.

Franklin pointed out that the misapplication of these concepts has resulted in issues such as the exclusion of single individuals from church roles based on their marital status.

He highlighted a cultural expectation that single individuals, particularly women, are viewed as lacking in some way, which creates a harmful environment.

According to Franklin, this misconception devalues individuals who are not married or have children.

He also criticized the church for making marriage a requirement for certain ministry roles, which sometimes pressures individuals into marriage to meet perceived religious standards.

Franklin referred to Apostle Paul’s view that marriage can be a distraction from spiritual duties and noted that some individuals are encouraged to marry quickly in order to serve in ministry roles, rather than following their true calling.

Franklin emphasized that being single does not disqualify someone from being used by God or having a purposeful life.

He condemned the idea that marriage is necessary for divine favor and pointed out the damaging effects of such misconceptions, including the added pressure and eventual judgment faced by those whose marriages do not succeed.
