Her Early Life, and Academic Career

Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo was born on June 24, 1962, in Mexico City, Mexico. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo is 61 years old as of 2024. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo was raised in a family of scientists.

Her father, Carlos Sheinbaum Yoselevitz, was a chemical engineer, and her mother, Annie Pardo Cemo, was a biologist and professor emeritus at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

Sheinbaum’s academic journey began at UNAM, where she studied physics. She further pursued her master’s and doctorate degrees in energy engineering at the same university.

Claudia Sheinbaum’s doctoral research, conducted at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, California, U.S., compared trends in energy consumption in Mexico with those of other industrialized countries1. She returned to UNAM as a member of the engineering faculty in 1995.

Her Political Career

Sheinbaum’s political career is marked by a series of significant milestones. She served as the Secretary of the Environment under future president Andrés Manuel López Obrador during his tenure as Head of Government from 2000 to 2006. She then served as Delegational Chief of the Tlalpan borough from 2015 to 2017.

In her personal life, Sheinbaum has been married twice. Her first husband was Carlos Ímaz Gispert, with whom she has one daughter, Mariana.
