Michael McRae King was born on May 25, 1995, in Rochester, New York, the United States of America. He attended Bishop Hendricken High School in Warwick, Rhode Island where he played for the school’s baseball team as a pitcher and an outfielder.
Michael King was named the Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year for Rhode Island in 2013. He graduated from Bishop Hendricken in 2013 and later enrolled at Boston College, where he played college baseball for the Boston College Eagles.

Michael King was selected by the Miami Marlins in the 12th round of the 2016 MLB draft. He made his professional debut that season with the GCL Marlins and was later promoted to both the Batavia Muckdogs and Greensboro Grasshoppers.
Michael King was promoted to the major leagues on September 19 by the New York Yankees and made his major league debut on September 27 against the Texas Rangers.
