Michel David-Weill was an investment banker and Chairman of Lazard LLC and Eurazeo.
He was born in Paris on November 23, 1932, to Pierre David-Weill and former Berthe Haardt.
David-Weill graduated from the Lycee Francais bilingual private school in Manhattan and from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Paris, also known as Sciences Po.
He joined Lazard’s Paris house -Lazard Freres et Cie in 1956. Michel was appointed Senior Partner of the Paris partnership in 1975 and, following the death of Andre Meyer in 1979, he took the reins.
David-Weill served as Chairman of Lazard from 1977 to 2005 and eventually led Lazard worldwide.
He also served as a Member of the Supervisory Board at Eurazeo.

Michel David-Weill passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2022, in New York at the age of 89.
His death was announced by Lazard on Twitter:
“It is with sadness that Lazard learned of the passing of Michel David-Weill”. “Throughout the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, Michel steered Lazard with unerring steadiness”.
“His inspiration, leadership and vision define Lazard today. We extend our thoughts and condolences to his family”, Lazard tweeted.
However, David-Weill’s cause of death was not revealed to the public.
Michel David-Weill was married to the former Hélène David-Weill.
He is survived by his children; Béatrice Stern, Natalie Merveilleux du Vignaux, Cécile David-Weill, and Agathe Mordacq.
