This endorsement came after President Biden announced his decision to withdraw from the race.

Whitmer, along with other Democratic governors like Illinois’ JB Pritzker, Minnesota’s Tim Walz, and Wisconsin’s Tony Evers, expressed their support for Harris on Monday morning.

Whitmer stated her excitement about supporting Harris, emphasizing that Harris is a reliable candidate focused on reducing costs, restoring freedoms, bringing jobs back to the U.S., and building a strong economy.

Whitmer praised Harris as a former prosecutor and advocate for reproductive freedom, highlighting her commitment to Michigan.

Contrasting Harris with former President Donald Trump, Whitmer criticized Trump for his controversial actions and economic decisions, asserting that Harris has her full support.

Whitmer urged Michigan voters to rally behind Harris and prevent Trump from returning to the White House.

Following Biden’s announcement, Whitmer acknowledged his significant contributions, including lowering prescription drug costs, improving infrastructure, addressing climate change, and maintaining America’s global leadership.

She described Biden as a dedicated public servant who knows what it takes to defeat Trump.

Other Michigan officials also shared their views on Biden’s decision to step down, a move that followed concerns about his health after the presidential debate.

Whitmer had consistently supported Biden throughout his campaign despite calls for him to withdraw. As the Democratic National Convention approaches, Whitmer remains firm in her decision not to run for president, supporting Harris as the party’s nominee.
