“There has been a failed coup attempt, the people should confront it,” state media is Sudan reported.
Soldiers in Sudan attempted a takeover of power in the country on Monday, according to state television, but the apparent coup was reported unsuccessful. The coup came from soldiers in Sudan military’s armoured corps
“Over 40 officers have been arrested,” reported Al Jazeera’s Zeinab Salih from Sudan’s Omdurman.
It was unclear who led the attempted coup, but authorities said the push was thwarted and some suspects have been held for taking parts.
The development came two weeks after soldiers led a successful takeover of power in Guinea on September 5, ending President Alpha Conde’s long grip on power.
The heads of states visited Mamady Doumbouya led by Ghana President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo in an attempt to persuade him to return the country into Democratic rule. However, Mamady Doumbouya refused their request stating that they are only accountable to the people of Guinea.
