The family of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has publicly appealed to organizations and individuals planning to commemorate the first anniversary of his death to put their plans on hold.

The family’s plea was made in a statement signed by Monisola Odumosu, a member of their legal team.

The statement expressed the family’s wish to mourn their beloved son in peace, emphasizing that any celebratory events could exacerbate their emotional distress.

“It has come to the attention of the Aloba family that some organizations have been planning to celebrate the first anniversary of the death of our late son and singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (Mohbad). The Aloba family wishes to appeal to such interest groups to suspend such ideas,” the statement read.

Adding to their request, the family urged those planning such events to focus on prayers for the late singer rather than organizing elaborate gatherings.

The family also made it clear that anyone wishing to proceed with commemorative events must first seek proper approval from them.

“We will appeal to such persons and organizations to seek proper approval from the family before going on with such plans. The Aloba family would not wish the goodwill of their illustrious son to be employed for commercial purposes,” the statement added.

Mohbad’s died on September 12, 2023, when he was just 27 years old. He was a former signee of Marlian Music, the record label owned by Naira Marley.
