Montery Park Mass Shooting: California Mass Shooting Leaves At Least 10 Dead

Ten people have lost their lives following a shooting which occured at a ballroom dance studio in the Californian city of Monterey Park, near Los Angeles, police said.

Police further said that at least 10 others have been left injured.

The shooting occured at around 22:20 local time on Saturday, which translates to 06:20 GMT on Sunday; thousands of people were gathered in the city for the onterey Park Lunar New Year festival.

The shooting occurred on the 100 block of West Garvey Avenue, where several business premises are located, including the Star Ballroom Dance Studio.

An eyewitness told the Los Angeles Times that three people ran into his restaurant and told him to lock the door as there was a man with a machine gun in the area.

“It appears to have happened at a dance studio nearby where a gunman came in with what an eyewitness described as a machine gun, some automatic gun that fired multiple rounds at mostly Asian-Americans,” Jeong Park, a reporter with the paper, told the BBC.

An eyewitness told him that someone (presumed to be the prime suspect) fled in a car minutes later.

With regard to the suspect, Los Angeles Police said they were looking for a male suspect who fled the scene.

There was no description of the suspect.
