The incident occurred around 5 a.m. local time on Monday, August 19, 2024, amid a violent storm.
The Bayesian, owned by British tech tycoon Mike Lynch, was carrying 22 people, including British, American, and Canadian nationals, when it sank approximately 765 yards from Porticello, southwest of Palermo.
In addition to Bloomer, those reported missing include Lynch, 59, his 18-year-old daughter, his lawyer Christopher Morvilla, and Morvilla’s wife, Nada.
Witnesses reported to Italian news agency Ansa that the yacht’s anchor had been deployed during the storm, causing the mast to snap and destabilize the vessel.
