Mpho Moerane died on May 18th. Moerane had been in the Netcare Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg for a week following a serious automobile accident on Monday. Mike Maile, a family representative, announced his death outside the hospital on Wednesday, May 18 evening.
Mpho Moerane was the mayor of Johannesburg from October to November 2021. In South Africa, he worked as a politician, merchant, and electrician. He formerly served on the mayoral committee (MMC) for environment and infrastructure services as a member of the African National Congress from December 2019 to September 2021.
Moerane held the position of regional treasurer for the African National Congress (ANC). On October 1, 2021, he was sworn in as President. He was in office until the November 1st municipal elections. At the first council meeting on November 22, 2021, Moerane was defeated by Mpho Phalatse in the election for mayor.
