Muammar al-Qaddafi is a politician known for his braveness in being a controversial politician in Libya. He is the first president to rule a country for about 40 years based on authoritative governance from 1942-2011.

Who Was Gaddafi And What Did He Do

The controversial politician was born on June 7, 1942, in Sirte, Libya, from a tribal group called the al-Qadhafah. He lived in the Libyan Dessert after he was brought to earth in the Italian colony era.

He was born Muammar Muhammad Abu Minyar al-Gaddafi Circa into a poor Bedouin family. Due to his religion, he became an Arab nationalist and had part of his education in Sabha. His height was 6feet.

Gadafi got married to two women. He got engaged with his first wife, Fatiha al-Nuri, in 1969. He was first blessed with a son called Muhammad Gaddafi born in 1970, after which they divorced.

He got engaged with his second wife Safia Farkash, a nurse in Bayida. They met in 1969, got married, and now they are blessed with seven kids. Saif al-Islam Gaddafi (born 1972), Al-Saadi Gaddafi (born 1973), Mutassim Gaddafi (1974–2011), Hannibal Muammar Gaddafi (born 1975), Ayesha Gaddafi (born 1976), Saif al-Arab Gaddafi (1982–2011), and Khamis Gaddafi (1983–2011). He also adopted two children, Hana Gaddafi, and Milad Gaddafi.

With influences from the Egyptian leader Gamal Abdel Nasser, he entered the military in the city of Bengazi and also the united kingdom to be equipped with military training.

Muammar became the president of Libya at age 27 when he overthrew King Idris with his planned army On September 1, 1969. King Idris was overthrown when he left for Turkey for his urgent medical attention.

Being the new leader of Libya, he closed down the American and British military bases in Libya. The Georgia calendar in the country was replaced by the Islamic calendar. He also demanded oil companies regulated by the foreign countries share a reasonable portion with his country.

Muammar forbids the sales of alcohol in cousin accordance with islamic laws. He enforced laws to criminalizes political dissent. He began to have limited trusted people and also ordered people to end the lives of Libyans living in exile.

He was against Western imperialism and hence expelled Italians and Jewish communities in Libya. The military in his country in his time of governance was involved in conflicts and bloody wars, which includes the civil war in Chad.

Muammar had a book published in the 1970s about his political philosophies, emphasizing problems with liberal democracy and capitalism. With this, he considered his policies as a solution to such political problems.

The death of Qaddafi was reported on October 20, 2011. He died in his hometown of Sirte, Libya. Due to his violent records against his people and other countries, his death was widely celebrated by the citizens of Libya. There were speculations that he died in a gun battle, whereas others also attributed it to the doings of the NATO aerial attack.
