The German star was practicing the 110m hurdles when she suddenly fell to the ground, clutching her ankle and appearing devastated.
The 26-year-old was seen in tears as medics attended to her and she was eventually taken off the track in a wheelchair.
The injury, which is suspected to be an Achilles issue, has ended Weissenberg’s hopes of competing in the heptathlon.

Weissenberg was set to make her Olympic debut in the 110m hurdles, sharing her excitement on social media with a post that read, “Olympic debut tomorrow!”
In the same event, Team GB’s Katarina Johnson-Thompson finished second in the first heat of the 110m hurdles. Johnson-Thompson, who won heptathlon gold at last year’s World Championships, is a strong contender for gold in Paris.
