Oscar award-winning Canadian screenwriter and director, Paul Haggis has been arrested in Ostuni, Southern Italy, on charges of sexual assault and aggravated personal injury inflicted upon a still-unidentified woman who has pressed charges.
According to a statement from the prosecutor’s office in the nearby city of Brindisi, which ordered the arrest, the accuser was not Italian.
The statement said that after two days of nonconsensual intercourse, he had brought the woman to the Papola Casale airport in Brindisi on Friday and left her there “at the first lights of dawn despite the precarious physical and psychological conditions of the woman.
Also according to some accusations, Mr Haggis, 69,“would have forced the young woman, that he had met sometime before, to endure sexual intercourse”.
Paul was accused in the US of sexual misconduct by four women, including two allegations of rape in 2018.
