Franz Ferdinand is a Scottish rock band that was formed in 2002 in Glasgow. Alex Kapranos (lead vocals, lead guitar, keyboards), Nick McCarthy (rhythm guitar, keyboards, backing vocals), Bob Hardy (bass guitar), and Paul Thomson comprised the band’s original lineup (drums, percussion, backing vocals).

After McCarthy departed the band the previous year, Julian Corrie (keyboards, lead guitar, backing vocals) and Dino Bardot (rhythm guitar, backing vocals) joined in 2017, and Audrey Tait (drums) joined after Thomson left in 2021.

The band is one of the most well-known post-punk revival bands, with many UK top 20 successes. They have been nominated for multiple Grammy Awards, as well as two Brit Awards, one of which they won for Best British Group, and one NME Award.

The group published a long message on Instagram. “Hello, world. Paul is leaving the band. It was a bit of a shocker for us when we found out, so it probably will be for some of you too. Paul has been our friend for over twenty-five years and we’re looking forward to at least another twenty-five. He’s a funny, smart, sensitive guy.

Not a bad drummer either. You don’t spend 20 years touring the world with someone without them becoming like family and that isn’t going to change anytime soon. We’re glad we shared those adventures and experiences together and look forward to hearing what he gets up to next.”
