Queen Elizabeth’s oldest son, Prince Charles will immediately become King upon her death, though a coronation traditionally held at Westminster Abbey will be planned later to officially crown the new king.

Charles was the heir apparent as well as Duke of Rothesay from 1952 to his accession in 2022 and was both the oldest and longest-serving heir apparent in British history. He is the longest serving Prince of Wales, having the title from July 1958 until his mother Elizabeth II, died on September 8, 2022.
