Rosmarie Trapp of the Trapp Musical Family noted for inspiring The Sound of Music has died aged 93.
In an Instagram statement shared Saturday May 14, 2022, the Trapp family said Rosmarie “passed away peacefully on Friday evening,” adding that “she was in the presence of loved ones all day long.”
The statement continued;
“Her kindness, generosity, and colorful spirit were legendary, and she had a positive impact on countless lives.”
The statement concluded;
“Please respect our family’s privacy as we take time to process this loss, and prepare to celebrate the life of an amazing woman.”
“We believe the best way to recognize Rosmarie is to demonstrate the same selfless kindness and generosity that she exemplified daily.”
The statement was signed by Johannes, Lynne, Kristina, and Sam von Trapp.
Rosmarie was born on February 8, 1929, in the village of Aigen on the outskirts of Salzburg, Austria.
The first child of naval war hero Captain Georg Johannes von Trapp and his wife Maria Augusta (Kutschera) von Trapp, Rosmarie grew up in a large family with seven older half-siblings and two younger siblings.
Rosmarie’s early years were spent with her family in Salzburg, and she emigrated with them to the United States in 1938 to escape the German occupation of Austria, where the family was pressured to cooperate with the Nazis.
