Chelsea’s plan to sign Atletico Madrid forward Samu Omorodion has fallen through, creating uncertainty around Conor Gallagher’s future.

The original deal would have seen Omorodion join Chelsea for £34.5 million, while Gallagher would move to Atletico for £36 million.
Gallagher had already completed his medical with Atletico and visited their Wanda Metropolitano stadium.
However, issues with Omorodion’s transfer have led to a potential return of Joao Felix to Chelsea, who had previously been on loan at Stamford Bridge.
This move aims to salvage the situation. Omorodion’s departure was set to trigger Atletico’s need for a new striker, and they had agreed to a significant £82 million deal with Manchester City for Julian Alvarez.

Despite the disruption, City anticipates that Alvarez’s transfer will proceed as planned. Alvarez has reportedly arrived in Madrid for his medical after a holiday following the Copa America.
Atletico’s deal for Alvarez would be a record-breaking sale for City, who bought him from River Plate for £14 million in January 2022.
Alvarez has had a successful stint at City, making 103 appearances and scoring 36 goals, while winning multiple titles including the Premier League and Champions League.
Meanwhile, Chelsea has continued to bolster their squad with recent signings, including Wolves winger Pedro Neto for £52 million.
The club has also secured several other players this summer and plans to add Palmeiras teenager Estevao Willian next year. Gallagher, who had interest from top Premier League clubs and rejected a move to Aston Villa, remains uncertain about his future.
