After voting to legalise Roe v Wade, a San Francisco archbishop banned Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi from receiving Holy Communion.

Pelosi will not be admitted to communion in the Archdiocese of San Francisco, and will not be able to receive the Eucharist until she withdraws her support for abortion, Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone said in a statement on Friday, May 20.

In the statement, Cordileone writes, “Unfortunately, Speaker Pelosi’s position on abortion has only become more radical over the years, especially in the last few months.”

‘A Catholic legislator who supports procured abortion after learning the Church’s doctrine commits a grave offence that causes grave scandal to others,’ says the report.

‘After numerous attempts to speak with her to help her understand the grave evil she is committing, the scandal she is causing, and the danger she is posing to her soul, I have determined that the time has come for me to make a public declaration that she will not be admitted to Holy Communion unless and until she publicly repudiates her support for abortion ‘rights’ and publicly repudiates her support for the death penalty.’

Pelosi has only been denied communion in San Francisco; whether she is allowed to receive communion in other parts of the country is up to Catholic bishops.
