Popularly known in the entertainment industry as Sarkodie, aka Obidiponbidi, Michael Owusu Addo is a Ghanaian rapper and entrepreneur. He was born on 10th July 1985. He is one of the most successful rappers in Ghana with a huge fanbase. He is the fourth of five children. was raised in Tema by his mum, Emma Maame Aggrey, a single parent.

Sarkodie is married to Tracy Owusu Addo and they are blessed with two children. Adalyn Owusu Addo and Michael Nana Yaw Owusu Addo Jr.
Sarkodie started to rap at age four. He attended Tema Methodist Day Senior High School in Ghana and then went to IPMC, where he earned a degree in graphic design.
Sarkodie began his music career as an underground rapper, participating in Adom FM’s(a radio station in Ghana) popular rap competition Kasahare Level. That was when he met his former manager Duncan Williams of Duncwills Entertainment. He had the opportunity to also meet other musicians like Castro and Edem.
He has contributed greatly to the Ghanaian music industry and has bagged several awards.

Sarkodie won his first award at the Ghana DJ Awards, for the DJs’ Song of The Year category with his 2019 hit, Oofeetsor which he featured Prince Bright. In October 2019, he became the first artist to win the Best International Flow award at the BET Hip hop awards.
The rapper and hiplife artist won three awards for his debut studio album, Maakye. The album earned him a nomination at the 2010 MTV African Music Awards. His second studio album also earned him a lot of recognition at the BET Awards, Ghana Music Awards, National Youth Achievement Awards, The headies, and Channel O Music Video Awards.
Sark has received over one hundred awards from about one hundred and seventy-six nominations.
Sarkodie launched his record label, Sarkcess Music record label in 2014.
