Shawn Bradley’s life has altered so dramatically since he was paralyzed in a terrible bike accident last year that the former NBA player admits he gets suicidal thoughts on a regular basis.
During recent interviews with Sports Illustrated, the 7-foot-6 ex-Dallas Mavericks fan favorite revealed the news, noting that things have been difficult since he suffered a major spine injury in a bicycle crash on Jan. 20, 2021.
“Maybe it’d be better if this was just all over,” Bradley says he sometimes thinks to himself in the wake of the tragedy.
“Yes, those thoughts creep in — and they’re real. I can’t ever imagine myself acting on those thoughts, but I definitely have them.”
Bradley said that he was paralyzed from the chest down after a minivan collided with the back of his bike last year, causing him to crash into a parked car and damaged vertebrae in his neck.
The formerly tall basketball player has been reduced to a wheelchair as a result of the accident, which he and his wife, Carrie, say has made even the most basic chores, such as going out on dates or walking about his home, practically impossible.
Bradley now needs assistance with eating and washing… and he admits that seeing him in his new state can be difficult.
