His legal team confirmed that he surrendered into custody before the court’s ruling was delivered today.

Hoggard was convicted in June 2022 of sexual assault causing bodily harm against an Ottawa woman.

He was sentenced to five years in prison. After his sentencing, he was released on bail while he appealed the conviction.

The appeal court upheld the conviction, despite determining that a psychologist’s testimony on the neurobiology of trauma should not have been admitted during the trial.

Hoggard’s lawyers have expressed their disagreement with the trial’s fairness but respect the court’s decision and will review the judgment for possible next steps.
