They claim that after being encouraged to expand their farms, they have not received promised market opportunities.

The National Chairman of the Sugarcane Farmers Association, Samuel Mensah, expressed frustration after Trade and Industry Minister K.T. Hammond announced plans to lease the factory to West African Agro Limited for 15 to 20 years.

Farmers are concerned about where this new company will source its sugarcane and when they will be able to sell their products.

Currently, the farmers have over 15,000 acres of sugarcane. They had a contract with the factory to purchase all their sugarcane but now face uncertainty.

The farmers are demanding that the company honor its commitments and purchase their produce as agreed.
