TikTok has become a popular social media platform of late. TikTok is known for its short videos.
In September this year, TikTok declared that it had one billion users worldwide. But the app owned by the Chinese company, ByteDance has recently come under criticism.
It is because of how it has affected how teenage girls perceive body image. TikTok users can now receive a share of a recent class-action lawsuit settlement.
There are allegations that TikTok has violated federal and state laws of the United States by collecting and using the personal data of its users. The management of TikTok denies this allegation.
However, on Monday, November 15, 2021, TikTok users in the United States received notifications about a settlement notice on the app. The notification advised users that they can apply to receive some amount from the $92 million settlement.
The lawsuit alleged that TikTok went against the Illinois biometric privacy law. This law allows suits to be taken against companies that collect data of their users without consent.
This also includes facial and fingerprint scanning. Illinois is the state that allows its residents to seek monetary damages where their data is harvested without their consent.
How long does it take to get a settlement check from class action?
It takes about a month and two weeks to get a settlement check. This is bound to happen once the release has been signed and the insurance company has agreed to pay.
