Timothy Malcolm Healy was born on January 29, 1952, in Benwell, Newcastle upon Tyne, the United Kingdom to parents Timothy Malcolm Healy Sr., and Sadie Wilson Healy. He has earlier worked as a welder in a factory.

Tim Healy has served part-time in the 4th Battalion, Parachute Regiment of the British Army. He obtained a student grant for the Northern Arts School and moved into acting. He was an early member of the touring company, Live Theatre Company and rose into prominence for his role in the TV comedy drama series Auf Wiedersehen.
Tim Healy has also appeared in Pet, Benidorm, Still Open All Hours, Minder, Tickle on the Tum, Boys From The Bush, Common as Muck and A Captain’s Tale. He married actress Denise Welch in 1988 but got divorced in 2012. He is the father of two children including Matthew Healy and Louis Healy.
