The Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, has announced that Nigerian travellers may soon see an end to visa restrictions imposed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In a recent interview, Keyamo revealed that a resolution has been achieved following discussions between President Bola Tinubu and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during President Tinubu’s visit to the UAE in September 2023.

Keyamo expressed optimism about the imminent lifting of the visa ban, citing that all necessary procedures from the Nigerian government have been completed.

He acknowledged President Tinubu’s role in facilitating the process and assured that an official announcement from the UAE government is expected soon.

“We have done everything. We have resolved everything. Just wait for the announcement from the UAE government, and that announcement is imminent,” Keyamo stated.

While Keyamo did not disclose the exact date of the lifting, he emphasized that it is now up to the UAE authorities to make the announcement.

The visa restrictions, which were imposed in 2022 affecting Nigerian and several other African nationals, have strained travel between Nigeria and the UAE.

The anticipated lift of the ban is expected to improve travel ease for Nigerians and strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations.

Overall, the development marks a positive step towards restoring normalcy and enhancing cooperation between Nigeria and the UAE.
