Honie was convicted of aggravated murder for the 1998 killing of Claudia Benn, whom he attacked after breaking into her Cedar City home.
The execution, which began at 12:08 a.m. Mountain Time, was carried out using two doses of pentobarbital.
Honie showed some movements and gasped as the drug took effect, but he was pronounced dead at 12:25 a.m. The process lasted about 17 minutes.

In his final statement, Honie expressed a wish for healing and urged his fellow inmates to continue striving for change.
His last meal consisted of a cheeseburger, French fries, and a milkshake. He spent his final hours with family before the execution.
Protests against the death penalty were held outside the prison, with demonstrators holding signs and singing “Amazing Grace.”
Honie’s execution followed decades of legal battles and was the result of a protocol change by the state in July 2024 to use a high dose of pentobarbital.
